Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

The bike was parked at the Metra Clyborn station on 2001 Ashland. It was locked through the front wheel as well as the frame of the bike. When I got off the train the bike, helmet, chains were missing.

I locked my bike outside my apartment. I couldn't take it to the second floor because I have a back injury. I locked it Sept. 28 around 3 p.m. the last time I saw it was that night around 10 p.m. by Sept. 27 around 8:30 a.m. the bike was gone. The lock was gone,too.

My wife had been out running errands on the bike and locked in front of 534 N Clark (Blue Chicago Bar) near where we live. 2 hours later she returned to ride it again and found the lock had been cut and the bike was gone.

I locked my bike to the fence outside my apartment and left it there overnight. In the morning it was gone as well as the lock.

Garage door facing alley was mistakenly not closed for 2 hours. When we returned, bike was gone.

The bike was locked at 37 S Wabash Ave, in front of one of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's school buildings downtown. It was locked to the metal pole of a street sign in front of the entrance to the building at 9:00 am before class. The bike was still there when I left for evening class in another building. When I returned at 9:00 pm, the bike was gone, the street sign was still in place, but I noticed that the bolt that afixes the pole to the base was gone (I forgot to check before I locked the bike whether it was there when I locked up initially). When I reported the theft to a security guard at the school building, she said that about two hours prior, she had been outside the building and saw someone messing with the bike. She asked if it was his bike and he said that it was and he had forgotten the key.

I locked my bike to the bike rack at 350 N Lasalle in the morning. At 5:30 in the evening I went to retrieve it and it was gone.

Wife's bike and mine stolen out of garage. Thief had to come down side of garage and enter gate and garage.

Came down side of garage through a fence and into garage through a door to steal 2 bicycles. Left third bike and child's bike.

The bike was locked to a bike rack on the campus of the University of Chicago in front of the KCBD building, a site of frequent thefts. The lock was apparently cut or smashed on the numbers portion of the combination cable.

Two bikes were locked using a U lock in the alley behind 1969 N Halsted APT 3. For familiarity purposes, I live above a restaurant named Taco Joint on North Halsted and between that street and the next there is an ally for parking and residential entrances. I locked both bikes up on a post on Saturday night behind my apartment in the ally. One was my roommates a turquoise Mongoose bike, an another was mine an antique Nishiki brand single speed bicycle that was a cream tan color. The bike was an heirloom from my father. I went outside this afternoon to move the bikes and they were both completely gone. There was no sign of them anywhere. I asked the restaurant and they had not seen the bikes either.

Bike was on the side of my house in between 2 gates which are normally locked but could have been left unlocked. Stolen between midnight and 9am. Two of my neighbors bikes which were locked to the window of the house were vandalized as though the thief tried his damndest to steal them as well.

I was finishing up work at 5am, having had worked a 12+ hour day at the Ruthpage Center for the Arts at 1016 N Dearborn. I was in the lobby of the theatre when I heard a grinder outside. Thought at first it could be road work, but it seemed too early, and then realized my bike was outside. Ran out front door, saw a guy grinding off my lock with a battery powered grinder. He had removed my front wheel, which was still locked to the frame and bike rack. I yelled at him, told him I was calling the police, and he said, "Go ahead." I stood in the doorway and watched him grind out a chuck of the lock, put my wheel back on and ride off down an alley. My boss hopped in her car and went after him, but she never saw him after he had left. The bikes were locked in a basement room, that was only accessible through 2 locked doors. The back door was forced open, and the bikes were singled out from a couple of other bikes (some not even locked) in the same room. Therefore it was probably a planned burglary or informed theft.

I just got home and forgot to lock the bike which I usually do, but I was tired and probably got too complacent that I didn't. I took a nap at maybe around 12:30pm and when I woke up at 3:30pm the bike was gone. We live in an apartment complex that is not that big, it is gated although you can get in without buzzing in. We are on the 3rd floor and we don't have an elevator so I was thinking that whoever took the bike must have knew someone who lives here or just happened to see the bike on our porch and decided to take it which I doubt because if you are just walking around the neighborhood you will never notice or see my bike on the porch unless you enter the gate of our apartment complex. I asked our neighbor if she saw anything unusual and she said she saw 2 teenagers hanging around the first floor, 1 with a bike and 1 without, that's all she can tell me.
