Basic Bike Info

Bicycle Type:
Road Bike
Size:
55cm frame (21.5")
Color:
White frame (worn), top tube ribbon pattern red/yel/blue/blk
Condition of Bicycle / Distinguishing Features:
I made the bicycle myself four years ago and it was heavily ridden. The frame is painted white, but with a lot of wear. The top tube of the frame is painted red, yellow, blue, white and black in an interlocking ribbon pattern. The fork is black, (flat) handlebars black, grips black, stem silver. It looks like a fixie to the untrained eye but is actually a single speed rear-wheel coaster brake. The chain and crank are currently slightly, but not excessively, rusted.

Incident Description

Which type of area was your bike stolen from?:
Storage room.
How long was the bike locked in this location?:
It was not locked... it was in the entryway to my apartment building in a safe residential neighborhood.
Incident Description:
The bike was in the entryway to my apartment building, a large building that looks like a single family home near Montrose and California. I left it there around 5 PM on Wednesday April 29, after returning from a meeting. I was in and out of the apartment later that evening, as were my roommates, but I mostly went up the back stairs, so would not have passed through the front entry area. I always lock my bike, but recently I've been leaving it in the entryway unlocked because there is nothing to lock it to; a lot of stuff is in the way. The building is in a safe, residential area, and the entryway is hardly visible from the street. It is very surprising to me that someone would have come in and taken it, and I say that as someone who has had several bikes stolen in the past and expects the worst. I do not know whether the bike was taken last night or this morning (4/30), but I am sure it was taken between 5 PM last evening and 12 noon today. The maintenance person for the building, who is in and out a lot doing work on a ground-floor unit, is pretty sure he saw the bike at 8:30 AM, but my roommates do not remember seeing it at 9 PM last night, so there is some conflicting information.
